Searching the Internet for facts and figures to use in your is certainly a proven and acknowledged way.But Google and other commercial databases will seldom deliver useful information. Even Wikipedia is not always a valid and reliable source. So don’t waste your valuable research time googling around, go straight to library subscription-only databases.
