Filed Under Information for Students, New | Leave a Comment
Are you a musician, photographer, writer, singer? Do you run a club, a business, or a shop? Do you have a hobby you want to share?
Whatever it is what you do - beside studying - let us know and we promote you on this website! We can even bring you to iTunes (video/audio) to make you the new star in the music scene.
What we need from you: a short description of your activity and some nice pictures for illustration.
You can see an example of what can be done here on the right column where the wedding photography of Bernardo is popping up. But of course there are many ways to show your work (video, animation, audio, picture gallery…), so let’s talk about it. Just send us an email or comment on this post (click on ‘Comment’ above).
P.S.: Yep, it’s for free - no, nada, tidak, nihil, zero, nix rupiah!

How to subscribe to video and audio of a website via iTunes
Filed Under FIM podcasts, Software | Leave a Comment
This short video will show you, how you can subscribe to video and audio files of a website via iTunes. iTunes for PC and Mac currently offers more than 100.000 podcasts (video and audio) for free. Many of them are produced by universities (e.g. Harvard, Stanford, MIT) and educational institutes like this one. Almost all of them are available for free and a great resource for students. Learn how to get interesting podcasts automatically with a subscription to them similar to a subscription to a newspaper (but free of charge!). In iTunes you can watch them in much better quality than on the website. You might also transfer (synchronise) these video and audio files to your iPod or any other MP3-player or to your mobile phone (e.g. Nokia, Sony Ericcson) to enjoy them on-the-go.

Do you blog already?
Filed Under Software | 3 Comments
Blogging is one of the hottest trends on the Internet and part of what is termed “Web 2.0″. Hundreds of new blogs are published every day. A blog is a site like this one, where you post articles in chronological order. Blogs are covering every subject imaginable, from personal diaries to news coverage to cooking recipes to companies’ news… you name it - there are blogs about it. To publish a blog is as easy as counting to three using popular services like Blogger, Wordpress and many more which do not charge any money for hosting the blog.
Once started a blogger would update her blog frequently with new articles and doing so might become a tedious work, since she has to log in to the blog’s website to write a new post online. If the Internet line is slow this gets time consuming even more so, if pictures and links are added to the content. A smarter way to add posts (and pages) to a blog is using a blogging software on the computer. This way the text, images and links can be edited until everything is ‘perfect’. Publishing to the blog is then done with a click of the mouse in seconds.
A cool tool to do so is ScribeFire . This free software is an add-on to the popular Firefox web browser. It opens an editor window right in the browser to enable writing and editing a post. This can be done from any website, so the blogger has not to be logged in to her blog-site. Pasting text, links and images from other websites to the own article is a snap. Publishing the article is done by clicking a button.

ZOOM H2 digital recorder problem and solution
Filed Under New | Leave a Comment
As many other podcast producer we use the Zoom H2 recorder. It’s a great small device with excellent features and, even more important, with a very good sound. Once audio is recorded on the SD card of the H2 a connection via USB cable to the computer allows the file transfer for further editing with software like Garage Band, Audacity and many professional audio programs.
It might happen that this connection is interrupted and that is the moment when the H2 will switch off and cannot be powered on again by sliding the power switch into the on position. As we found out -after hours of frustration- there is a simple way to get the H2 to start up again:
Remove the batteries from the compartment (and unplug the DC power) and wait for about 15 minutes. After then you insert the batteries again and the H2 should start up as usual. We are no technicians, so we do not know how to explain this in correct terms but obviously a program crash on the H2 is running in a battery supported memory which will deleted by the described procedure and free the H2 from the cause of malfunction as well.
Happy podcasting!

How to subscribe to a website with Firefox
Filed Under FIM podcasts | 3 Comments
This short tutorial shows how you can subscribe to a website using Firefox (other browser are working very similar - e.g. Safari). Doing so will show you with one single click all the latest articles (posts) of the website. This is a great way to stay up-to-date to news and check out interesting topics in a few seconds without surfing all websites which would be very time consuming.
