Photograph of Mountain Anak Gunung Rijani by Arno Suherry

NEW: Stay tuned about topics and courses in photography on our website: Photo District Jakarta!

If you’re a passionate photographer who wants to learn fine art printing and lightning techniques on a professional level then this is good news for you:

Arno Suherry, a landscape-photographer as he calls himself - just opened a school and gallery in Kemang. Mr.Arno studied his art with world renown photographers and printers. Most of them working in the tradition of the great Ansel Adams, whose black and white photographs of the American West are legend. The school will provide classes for advanced students and requires a portfolio of at least 5 prints for enrollment assessment.

We had the opportunity to ask some questions to Mr. Arno yesterday at the Grand Opening of an exhibition of his own photographs displaying a series of Mount Rinjani taken last September when Mr. Arno climbed Gunung Rinjani (the photograph shows Anak Gunung Rinjani. click to see a larger picture).
In the interview (s. below) he will share some thoughts about photography as well as give some useful information about the school (sorry for the noisy background, it seemed that all the photographic society Jakarta showed up).

D’Arno Gallery, Jl.Kemang Raya 6B, ( 10.00-18.00 wib) ph.021.7198742, South Jakarta

Many thanks to Bernardo Halim, who made me aware of this event!

I am wondering are all the photographers or artist accepted to be shown in the gallery landscape artist?

What kind of workshops or lessons are given for fine art printing is this color printing, black and white printing, or digital printing? As for lighting techniques does this deal with studio lighting or recognizing the values of lighting an object or scene outside?

Since you request 5 prints to be reviewed are they supposed to be analog or digital prints? If they are analog where is a good place to go to get black and white film developing materials and a good place to print your black and white? If color where is there are printing studio to rent and create your own color prints?

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

This is a really advanced class. For you who have not mastered basic skills yet, probably not eligible for this one. By the way, De Arno Gallery is the finest photo gallery in Indonesia.

Tell me what you're thinking...
