An ancient Chinese proverb tells us:
“I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.”
This central phrase may well be our fundamental guideline of how we conduct our training:
Comments of participants of countless seminars illustrate, what most people experience, when they come back to their workplace:
-
- Euphoria about new knowledge
- Feeling energized and excited
- Eager to try out, what they heard
- Trying to implement it
- Experiencing obstacles in doing so
- Looking for help to find a solution
- Feeling ‘lost’ and disillusioned
- Giving up and try again
- Attending the next seminar…
We like to call this the “Sisyphus Effect”: as this condemned Greek is putting a lot of effort in rolling a stone uphill, a majority of people put a lot of effort in choosing the right seminar, attending it and following it with great anticipation and focus. But unfortunately, like Sisyphus when almost at the top of the hill, the stone rolls back and he has to start all over, many seminar participants experience just that; being close to the solution of real life problems they feel overwhelmed by the difficulties to set in practice what they heard … and attend the next seminar.
We would not really call this a learning experience, rather a nice try. Looking for the reasons of such a poor performance in applying theory to practice we might assume, that it derives from a poor presentation of the theory and therefor depends on the qualification of the trainer. But then again, there are many brilliant and captivating presenter out there. The key to effective training is found elsewhere.
Modern research -let alone Chinese proverbs- shows evidence for this:

Recipients retention of seminar’s content. (Mercuri, 2004)
And that is why we follow our credo:
“Training made in Germany!”
Simply put our training and seminars are designed to let the participants say and do what they hear and see to make sure they benefit the most. A very practical “hands-on” approach. And because we first gained our experience and reputation from conducting our seminars in Germany, we say so.
